Responsabilidad corporativa y el medio ambiente.Historia A partir de la revolución industrial, la productividad y el crecimiento han sido el propósito central de los negocios. Con el tiempo, las comunicaciones, los trayectos y la población se han acelerado, los negocios han crecido al absorber a sus competidores. La fábrica de Henry Ford – donde la producción en masa tuvo precedente sobre cualquier asunto social y ambiental- dio origen al surgimiento de las súper corporaciones. En incremento global, estas corporaciones se han convertido en una parte de la vida diaria para las personas alrededor del mundo. Su crecimiento ha sido tan rápido que han tenido poco tiempo de considerar los efectos colaterales ambientales de sus actividades. En los 70´s, con el surgimiento de la conciencia social, las corporaciones se convirtieron en el blanco principal de los grupos de defensa. Con incidentes notorios tales como el Desastre de Exxon Valdez en Alaska y los debates de las fábricas de explotación de Nike, las corporaciones empezaron a darse cuenta que sus obligaciones iban más allá de la acumulación de riqueza. En años recientes, palabras clave como auto-regulación corporativa, responsabilidad corporativa y sustentabilidad ambiental se han hecho comunes. Compañías antes notorias ahora gastan millones en promocionar lo ambiental que se han hecho sus prácticas. Earthday, advierte que seguido se da el caso de una “lavado verde” donde corporaciones se esconden detrás de una pretensión de limpieza pero realmente han cambiado muy poco.
